DOWNTOWN RIVER TOUR
On this tour you’ll get a view of:
-
- River taxis plying the Vreed en Hoop to Georgetown route;
- The iconic Demerara Harbour Bridge, a 6074 feet; long floating bridge commissioned on 2 July 1978;
- Thousands of birds in their natural habitat such as the Scarlet Ibis which has a unique bright red colour.
- The only three islands in the Demerara River: Inver, Borselem and Biesen. You’ll learn the interesting history of these islands which were once colonized by the Dutch and afterwards captured by the British.

SANTA MISSION AND KAMUNI PALM BEACH RESERVE TOUR


This River Tour features a 40-minute cruise to Santa Mission – an Arawak community located along the Kamuni Creek along which you will also see where the Chinese first settled in Guyana.
Founded in the 1800s by Alfred Patterson, Santa Mission showcases the Amerindian cultures and way of life. You’ll get a chance to visit the craft shop which showcases the colourful designs, thoughts and culture of these wonderful people, swim at the beach and enjoy a tour of the Mission (village).
An opportunity to savour a dip in the black waters of Kamuni Creek lined with white sand eagerly awaits you.
Enjoy lunch at the Kamuni Palm Beach Reserve after which you can choose to relax on the white sand beach or indulge in kayaking, fishing, bird watching walk or jungle trekking.
LINDEN TOUR BY BOAT
This new feature to our Tours entails a visit to Region 10 by boat provides a unique experience as it is rarely done. Prior to arriving in Linden, a brief stop will be made at the site of the ‘Son Chapman’; a motor launch which exploded in July 1963 and forty-three (43) lives were lost. On arrival to the Bauxite Mining community of Linden, tourists can visit the Linden Museum to see the early features of Mackenzie’s History (Linden and Wismar).
This is followed by a tour of the Bauxite mines as to this day, Bauxite is still mined in this community and the Blue Lakes. The Blue Lakes which hold blue waters in old mined out areas. This area is great for taking of pictures as the blue waters are magical in appearance.
The tour’s next stop is at the Christianburg Water Wheel located in Wismar. This historic wheel once supplied electricity to a local sawmill.
A sumptuous lunch is provided at the historical ‘Watooka Guest House’; a colonial style building used by businessmen in the early 1900s. This building was renovated as a home for the Bauxite Company Managers and subsequently open to the public. Watooka Guest House features beautiful palm trees, a pool, a tennis court and a wooden deck which provides a view of the pristine black waters of the Demerara River.
Back to the boat we go for the return trip to the “Garden City” Georgetown.
